Jacob Turner will stick around through September

It seems like Tigers top prospect Jacob Turner made quite the impression his first time up with a Tigers several weeks ago.

According to Chris Iott of Mlive.com, the Tigers will keep the rookie around after his spot start Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that Turner will be used throughout September as protection in case of a rain out or if the team needs another pitcher down the stretch. Iott says this would prevent Leyland from having to use a pitcher on short rest.

“That’s the idea,” Leyland said. “Plus, I think it will be good for him to see what it’s like amongst this stuff. Hopefully, we won’t have to use him after Thursday, but in case we would, we would at least have the option.”
