The New York Knicks scoring attack just got more potent as it was announced that J.R. Smith would sign with the team.
Smith confirmed the rumors via Twitter Friday morning.
The 18th pick by the Hornets in the 2004 NBA Draft, Smith never really caught fire until he got to Denver in 2006-2007, when he averaged 13 points a night. It was in Denver that Smith would become one of the leagues streakiest shooters and more valuable reserves.
Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni now has an interesting dilemma on his hands figuring out the team’s best lineup. Iman Shumpert has become a nice defensive option on a team that doesn’t play a lot of defense. If you go with this option though Smith’s 3-point production will be limited to the bench. Or perhaps you keep Smith on the floor and move Amare to the bench in favor of Chandler’s defensive skill set?
Nonetheless, the Knicks need to open up a spot on the roster for Smith and Balkman, who is on the books next season for $1,675,000, will likely be released.
