Inge to return from rehab assignment soon

It seems as though Tigers 3B Brandon Inge will soon grace the Tigers’ lineup with his presence after spending time in Toledo rehabbing after suffering from mononucleosis.

When that happens is still a foregone conclusion since manager Jim Leyland has given no insight on the call-up other than it will happen in the near future.

“We’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said this morning. “I would assume something would probably happen in the near future with the Inge situation. I don’t know how near future.”

Inge so far this season has been struggling at the plate hitting only .211 with 1 home run and 12 RBI’s. He did however hit 2 home runs Tuesday night with Toledo.

What’s interesting to take out of Brandon Inge soon returning to the Tigers lineup is he may bring some players with him up from Toledo. During the same media session with Leyland, the Tigers skipper indicated that there would be roster moves made.

Again what exactly this means isn’t quite clear.

But when you take a look at some of the pitchers currently in Toledo like Brad Thomas and Ryan Perry you might think that they could be joining Inge on their trip back up to the majors.

Of course if they bring someone up they will have to send someone back down, especially if it’s Brad Thomas due to the Tigers already having an abundance of lefties already in the bullpen. If that’s the case look for Daniel Schlereth or Adam Wilk to be sent back down to Toledo.

Either way, Jim Leyland has been very pleased with the players who substituted in Inge’s absence.

“They’ve done a good job,” Leyland said of Don Kelly and Danny Worth. “Donnie Kelly’s done great and Danny Worth’s done fine. They’ve caught the ball good, but if you think they’re going to catch it like Inge every day, they’re not. At some point they’re not.”
