Inge returns to the Tigers, Brad Penny defends Leyland via Twitter

The Tigers have had a pretty busy off day coming off a 7-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday morning the club officially announced that they have recalled 3B Brandon Inge from Triple-A Toledo where he was completing a rehab assignment after spending time on the DL with mononucleosis. To make room for him on the roster the team optioned infielder Danny Worth back down to Triple-A.

While with the Mud Hens Inge hit .250 in seven games and is expected to be in uniform for the Tigers when they start a weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday from Comerica.

In addition to this move, the team also announced that they would recall RHP Ryan Perry before Friday and send LHP Adam Wilk back down to Toledo.

Penny defends Leyland on Twitter

Tigers starting pitcher and Twitter aficionado Brad Penny took to Twitter on Wednesday to defend his manager Jim Leyland. This was in light of a Ken Rosenthal article on FOXSports.com where he writes whether or not another second half collapse would cost Leyland his job.

Here is what Penny had to say…

“If we don’t play well it’s not the managers fault. Players need to be accountable. Myself include[d] … it’s never the coaches fault if we don’t do our job.”

It’s always nice to see players sticking up for their managers/coaches considering you don’t see it happen too often. Penny’s also right, the second half collapses and bad play of the Tigers cannot fully be attributed to Jim Leyland. Leyland’s job in Detroit has really become a thankless. His mistakes are put under the magnifying glass while anything he does right is rarely talked about.
