Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta wasn’t too pleased to see his star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera get thrown by Detroit starter Rick Porcello, he was even less pleased that he (Porcello) didn’t get thrown out of the game.
Here’s some quotes from Acta by way of David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press…
“I thought that was handled very poorly, myself,” Acta said. “Everybody, including the vendors in this stadium, knew he was throwing at him. If you know he threw at him, that shouldn’t be a warning. You should be thrown out of the game.”
Acta said he is “not impressed” by American League pitchers throwing at opponents because they don’t have to hit for themselves.
“I don’t condone it from my guys,” Acta said. “I don’t condone it from anybody else. To put somebody in jeopardy because a guy is just standing there looking at a foul ball? It was a foul ball.”
Porcello on the other hand said he wasn’t throwing at Cabrera…
“I understand they’re upset about that,” he said. “I don’t know what else he wants me to do. I can’t take the pitch back. It got away from me. It went behind him. That’s all there is to it.”
Acta didn’t quit his bitch-fest as he was also displeased with several calls during the game, including when Austin Jackson was ruled safe at second base on a fourth-inning steal.
“I guess, eventually, we are going to have to go with that buzzer, and have instant replay,” Acta said. “He was out.”
I really don’t know what Acta is so upset about… If it wasn’t for Porcello’s stellar pitching performance today, the Indians never would have gotten back into that game.
