DRIVE4COPD 300

It was a horrific scene at Daytona Saturday afternoon as Kyle Larsonโ€™s car flew into the catch fence sending debris including tires and a hot engine into the main grandstand. Larson himself was uninjured however a total of 28 spectators were injured including two who are in critical condition, one of which is a child.

Speedway president Joie Chitwood said afterwards that 14 of the injured were treated at the track while 14 others were transported to the hospital.

NASCAR vice president Steve Oโ€™Donnell said NASCAR will conduct a full investigation to see if new safety measures are needed. Quite frankly though itโ€™s pretty amazing something like this doesnโ€™t happen more often given the high speeds.

And hereโ€™s a spectators view of the incident shot by shot by Tyler Andersen.
