Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom says he hopes to return to the lineup Sunday against the Blackhawks after suffering a groin injury a couple weeks ago. The same could also be said for Darren Helm who’s been dealing with a similar injury.
“If I don’t have a setback, I’ll play tomorrow,” Holmstrom said after an extensive skate Saturday morning at the Air Canada Centre. “I want to play so bad tomorrow.”
Helm said he’s ready to play Sunday if he’s cleared.
“I think I can play. I feel really good. Have to see what they want me to do,” Helm said. “See how it feels tomorrow, only had two real practices.”
Tonight the Wings take on the Toronto Maple Leafs (7PM ET, FSD or CBC) on Hockey Night in Canada, the equivalent to Monday Night Football here in the United States. The Wings are also looking for their first victory in Toronto since November 16, 2002 when the Wings beat the Leafs 2 to 1.
It’s also important to mention that Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard will go for his 100th career victory tonight.
