Red Wings forwards Tomas Holmstrom and Chris Conner hope to return to the lineup next week after taking some time off due to injury.
Thursday, Tomas Holmstrom was placed on the short-term injured reserve after suffering a small tear in his groin muscle Monday against Nashville. If everything goes really well, Holmstrom hopes to start some light skating on Sunday and return to game action Tuesday in Dallas. However according to Ansar Khan of Mlive.com, that may be a little too optimistic.
“It’s getting better,” Holmstrom said. “Still, when I do certain motions it’s sharp pain, kind of. But sure it’s better from yesterday to today. I just got to find the right level to do workouts and see when I can step on the ice. Hopefully I can step on the ice New Year’s (Day) and feel it out and then we’ll know more where it is.”
He said of the injury: “I got run into the boards, my body went one way and my foot the other way. Something popped, kind of.”
Meanwhile Chris Conner saw a specialist on Wednesday for his fractured left hand and had his soft cast removed. He will be reevaluated on Monday.
“No surprises. Everything’s on track,” Conner said. “Having the cast on for two weeks I was a little stiff, get my muscles back going in my wrist. Everything seems pretty good.”
