Michigan head coach Brady Hoke said he still expects Vincent Smith to be the starting running back when U-M takes on San Diego State University from the Big House on Saturday.
“I would think so,” Hoke said of Smith, who led the tailbacks with 118 rushing yards against Eastern Michigan. “Fitz (Toussaint) had a good day yesterday, too. Both those guys ran the ball hard. (Thomas) Rawls ran the ball hard and he got some snaps in there. We’re still trying to find what that magic combination is.”
Hoke says that although he would like to find a true starting RB, the rotation will continue…
“There will be a point (of choosing one) but I can’t tell you on the 21st of September that we know when that point’s going to happen,” Hoke said. “There’s some good things they all to some degree but we want that guy who’s going to play a perfect game.”
According to Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press, Hoke also expects linebackers Cam Gordon (back) and Brandon Herron (leg) to be available on Saturday. However Hoke doesn’t believe that Gordon will start.
