Heading to Broadway: Richards signs with the Rangers

Arguably the biggest prize this off-season in the NHL is now off the market.

Saturday the New York Rangers agreed to terms with free agent forward Brad Richards on a nine-year deal worth $60 million dollars.

According to TSN.ca, other teams interested in Richards were the Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning and Calgary Flames.

Richards spent the first seven years of his NHL career with the Tampa Bay Lightning where he helped them capture the franchises first Stanley Cup back in 2004. He was also named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner during that run to the Stanley Cup.

Last season with the Dallas Stars, Richards had 28 goals and 77 points in 72 games. Over the course of his career he has 220 goals and 496 assists in 772 career NHL games.
