The Lions are 4-0 for the first time in what seems like an eternity (its only been 31 years), but there’s always a but when it comes to anything, especially these kitties. Everybody knows you need a strong running game in the playoffs, only problem is the 2011 (better than ever) Detroit Lions lack that.
Mikel Leshoure is going to miss his entire rookie season with a torn Achilles tendon. Now he would have been a big weapon and possibly lead the Lions to glory but it wont happen this year.
Let’s face it, championship caliber teams need a tough, bruising, physical running game and that’s just about the only thing this year’s Lions lack. The 2011 Lions are different from any other team I can remember and I started watching them in 1998 (not saying that to get a badge, I’m sure there’s been fans suffering for a lot longer).
The Lions have an opportunistic defense led by a very good front four, an upgraded linebacking core, a stud although rumored to be porcelain QB and in my and many people’s opinion the best wide receiver in the game today in Calvin Johnson. And except the occasional long run back, a very good special teams unit led by ageless yet slipping, Jason Hanson.
The only thing this years Lions lack is that ability to run in-between the tackles and pick up those tough yards. Again this is where the Lions will miss Leshoure since Jahvid Best and the rest of the Lions running game isn’t getting it done averaging a measly and pathetic 2.8 yards per carry.
Bottom line is (WARNING LIONS FANS THAT THINK THIS TEAM WILL WIN THE SUPERBOWL) the Lions will enjoy a nice 10-12 win season but when you’re that good there will come Super Bowl expectations and sadly Lions fans it wont happen this year.
