Guillen’s postseason roster chances in jeopardy, other Tigers injury notes

Tigers infielder Carlos Guillen is listed as day-to-day after suffering a calf strain during the weekend series with the Oakland A’s. According to Tigers head trainer Kevin Rand, Guillen is still unable to stand on his toes and walk pain free.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he doesn’t expect Guillen to be ready to go anytime soon. Leyland also did mention that if Guillen doesn’t play between now and the end of the season he wouldn’t include the veteran infielder on the postseason roster.

“It’s a Catch-22 because, physically, supposedly, he’s not ready for the first round or so, but he could be ready for the World Series, if you’re fortunate enough to get there,” Leyland said. “That could change things because the World Series is different than the divisional series and the championship series, obviously, because the postseason dictates pinch-hitting for pitchers.”
