The video below contains graphic footage of dog being thrown by a man. Some viewers may find the video disturbing.
In an evening where soccer should have taken a step forward with a promising 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory by the U.S. Men’s Soccer team, something like this emerges into the spotlight. A dog apparently gets loose on the field, and play is halted. What happens next is unexpected and cruel. A minor league Argentine soccer player, Enzo Jimenez, approaches the dog, grabs it by the neck, and violently hurls it through the air. Making matter worse, it doesn’t seem as though he was throwing the canine to get it off the field, but rather to cause harm, as the animal is heaved forcefully into a large fence. Thankfully, the dog immediately recovers and runs off. Jimenez receives a red card for his appalling action, and is confronted by players of the opposing team.
This action isn’t the only negative publicity that soccer has received over the past few years. Racism continues to run rampant in Europe, both on and off the field. Luis Suarez bit a player during a match this season. Some Italian teams had to play in empty stadiums because of reoccurring violence from fans in the crowd.
If it were up to me, Enzo Jimenez would have to have some serious counseling before he was let back on the soccer pitch.
