It was the San Francisco Giants show at Tuesday night’s All-Star Game as the National League beat up on the American League 8-0 from Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera opened the flood gates in the first inning off of AL Starter Justin Verlander. Cabrera singled to left center before Ryan Braun doubled him home to make it 1-0. Later on in the first after Verlander allowed back-to-back walks, Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval made it 4-0 when he hit a bases clearing triple.
When it was all said and done the NL had a 5-0 after the opening half of the first.
Giants starter Matt Cain was nearly flawless allowing zero runs on one hit and one strikeout in two innings for the win. Verlander was tagged with the loss.
Cabrera wasn’t done though has he took Matt Harrison deep in the fourth inning with a two run home run earning himself the MVP for the night.
When it was all said and done, the National League extended the American League’s scoreless streak to 14 innings — its longest drought since 1995-97 and secured home field advantage in the World Series.
