Get Fucked Daniel Snyder: Detroit City FC essentially blocked the Washington Commanders from using “DCFC”

One of the great pleasures in life is seeing shitty people and/or shitty organizations ultimately not get what they want. The pleasure is double when those shitty people are billionaires (which goes hand in hand) and that organization is nothing more than one of their many status symbols.

Wednesday, the Washington Football Team officially announced that they’d rebrand as the Washington Commanders — a generic, bland namesake that sounds more like an arena football team out of Charleston but still much better than the racist garbage they were able to get away with for decades.

What makes this whole situation even better though is what Commanders owner and noted shitbag Daniel Snyder was essentially denied.

According to ESPN, team president Jason Wright said that among the names on the table Red Wolves and Washington DC Football Club or DCFC were “heavily” being considered.

Only there was a problem, DCFC is already in use by our very own Detroit City FC:

Among the names they researched heavily: The Washington, D.C. Football Club and the RedWolves. There were problems with both. The DCFC was heavily considered, and they even designed logos. They wanted to play off the temporary Football Team name. But during the trademark search, they discovered there was a professional soccer team in Michigan called the Detroit City Football Club — DCFC — that had the colors burgundy and gold, same as Washington.

“If we had gone with that without doing that check, not only the name would have been in jeopardy but the burgundy and gold would have been in jeopardy,” Wright said. “They could have said we own the brand and the colors, you have to change both your name and the colors. That would have been the ultimate disaster.”

The only outcome potentially sweeter than what ultimately transpired is Dan Snyder’s ego coming into play, going with DCFC anyways then City stepping in and forcing the eventual Commanders to not only change their name but their team colors as well.

But seriously, when speaking of Snyder there truly may not be another owner in all of sports that is a bigger piece of shit than him. Snyder is the same guy who tried to get sportswriter Dave McKenna fired while claiming defamation over McKenna highlighting legitimate controversies surrounding the Washington owner. Snyder is also the same guy who brokered a deal with the National Park Service to remove old-growth trees from national parkland behind his home so he could have a better view of the Potomac River. Additionally, Snyder also helped cultivate a toxic workplace within the now Washington Commanders organization that prompted over 40 women to come forward alleging sexual harassment by Snyder and other male executives within the company.

Even the prior racist namesake was an issue that Snyder used to essentially spit in the faces of those calling for it to be changed. In 2013 Snyder went on record saying “we’ll never change the name. It’s that simple. NEVER—you can use caps.” while refusing to meet with Native American groups advocating for the change.

Meanwhile, it certainly doesn’t seem out of line to question the timeline of the change in relation to all the controversies surrounding Snyder and his football team. Managing the PR surrounding the yearlong speculation of “what will the Washington Football Team change their name to” is much easier for an asshat like Snyder and gets him off the hook (at least for now) for having to answer for the shitty workplace practices he’s allegedly helped to promote.

As far as Detroit City FC goes, they seem to have a knack for stopping shitty billionaires in their tracks. This year it was Snyder and the Washington Football Team, however, a few short years ago Detroit City along with their supporters successfully held off Pistons owner Tom Gores and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert from bringing an MLS franchise to Detroit.

In other words, Detroit City (FC) ain’t nothing to fuck with.
