Friday former Penn State president Graham Spanier learned that he would spend two months in jail and serve two months house arrest after being found guilty back in March of one count of child endangerment. This of course stemmed from the Jerry Sandusky era of child rape that lasted for decades at the Pennsylvania college while school officials, like Spanier continued to turn their head for the assumed betterment of their cherished football program.
Spanier’s sentence also comes after fellow Penn State scumbags Tim Curley and Gary Schultz learned their fates last week after pleading guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment. Curley, Penn State’s former athletic director will serve seven to 23 months including three months in jail, house arrest and a $5,000 fine.
Meanwhile, Schultz – a former VP of business and finance as the University will serve six to 23 months which includes two months in jail followed by house arrest and a $5,000 fine.
In addition, Spanier – who was the Penn State president from 1995 to 2011 – will have to pay a $7,500 fine.
With all of this coming down you can’t help but wonder what would have happened to Joe Paterno if the former coach didn’t die in the months after the Sandusky revelations fully came to the surface? Given what has happened to Curley, Schultz and now Spanier, Paterno’s fate – if the dirtbag didn’t take a dirt nap – would probably mimic much of the same punishment, at least you’d hope he would. Despite the claims of the Paterno apologists, you could make the argument that Paterno was the biggest enabler of Sandusky considering the power JoePa had at the University.
But as we sit and throw around those questions and as the victims of Sandusky continue to be scarred the Penn State football program continues as the NCAA has shown little to no backbone in the matter. Not to mention I’m sure the entirety of the situation is still yet to be fully revealed as we’re still hearing new revelations from victims who come forward.
