Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky has been charged with Sexual Abuse and two current university officials face charges of covering it up. This is according to Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly who made the announcement Saturday.
Jeff Frantz of the Patriot News writes that Jerry Sandusky, 67 was charged with more than 40 counts of sex crimes, including felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of someone under 16, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault of someone under 16, indecent assault of someone under 13, and corruption of minors charges have been filed in the state court docket system.
Also named in a grand jury indictment are Penn State Athletic Director Timothy Curley, 57, and Gary Schultz, 62, who is the university’s senior vice president for finance and business.
“This is a case about a sexual predator who used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys,” Kelly said. “It is also a case about high-ranking university officials who allegedly failed to report the sexual assault of a young boy after the information was brought to their attention, and later made false statements to a grand jury that was investigating a series of assaults on young boys.”
Sandusky was taken into custody Sunday while Curley and Schultz are expected to turn themselves in on Monday.
What may be even more disturbing is Sadusky founded The Second Mile, an organization that has served tens of thousands of school-aged Pennsylvania youths from troubled or dysfunctional families through nine prevention, early intervention and community-based programs.
