The 10-game mark in the NHL is coming around for Red Wings rookie forward Michael Rasmussen which means Detroit is struck with a decision, keep Rasmussen around or send him back to juniors.
Well, we have our answer.
For some reason, the Red Wings have opted to keep Rasmussen around which burn his entry-level deal and essentially let him get buried on a team that’s in the clutches of a massive rebuild.
Blashill says Michael Rasmussen has been told he’s staying. Plays his 10th NHL game Tuesday.

Typically, the Red Wings have been heavily criticized in the past for letting their young talent marinate too long outside the NHL roster whether that be in the AHL or below. Under some circumstances that criticism was warranted but you’d think this time around maybe there would be an exception considering how young the team already is.
Well it would seem Red Wings fans are learning that maybe the team is a little too young, so much so they’re bad. I mean really bad. In fact so bad to the point that Rasmussen’s development at the NHL level more than likely isn’t helping his long-term prognosis of a solid NHL player. Which I still believe he’ll end up being.
Sure we have a small sample size but it shouldn’t take a Scotty Bowman to realize Rasmussen simply isn’t ready for this level yet, especially if Jeff Blashill is going to bury him in the lineup.
So far through those nine games with his 10th coming up Tuesday night against Columbus, the rookie has one assist and a disallowed goal from last week when Justin Abdelkader interfered with the goaltender. Not only that though no one’s going to be hard pressed to realize that he simply looks out-of-place.
Bottom line, the Red Wings made the wrong decision here and it really shouldn’t have been that hard to come to terms with
