Who will make their way to Euro 2024? Major determining factors were set in place as qualifying draws were decided Sunday in Frankfurt, Germany.
Among some of the interesting draws included both 2021 finalists England and Italy finding themselves both in Group C. Also in Group C will be North Macedonia, the team who eliminated Italy from this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Meanwhile, Russia was held out as their national team remains banned from competition until further notice for that country’s role in the war with Ukraine according to UEFA. Interestingly enough, Russian ally Belarus, who has also played a role in the war is included in the qualifying draw. UEFA determined that the only requirement with Belarus is they cannot be in a Group that also includes Ukraine which will be the case as Belarus finds themselves in Group I while Ukraine draws into Group C with England and Italy.
Other notable draws include heavyweights France and the Netherlands facing off in Group B while Spain will look to somehow contain Norway’s Erling Haaland in Group A.
The qualification rounds will begin in March of 2023 and run until November of next year. The final three spots for the final 24-team field will be determined in a playoff in March of 2024.
