If you caught the beginning of Monday Night Football on ESPN last night you may have noticed something missing.
The what has become iconic opening song by Hank Williams Jr. was pulled by ESPN after the singer compared President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during a Monday morning appearance on “Fox and Friends.”
During a discussion on the 2012 presidential race, Williams began to discuss Obama’s golf outing with Speaker of the House John Boehner. Williams then added it was a political mistake and could be compared to “Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu.”
To add to Williams remarks on Obama, it also seemed as though something else was off about the country singer. You may notice while watching the clip that Williams in incoherent at times, stumbles over words and referred to Obama and Joe Biden as The Three Stooges.
Fox and Friends host Steve Doocy noted that’s only two.
ESPN released a statement expressing disappointment in Williams’ choice of words and that the song would be pulled for one game. The network also added that any further decision would be based on how contrite Williams is in the immediate future.
Williams also released an explanation more than anything on his appearance and choice of wording…
“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme — but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was.”
It really doesn’t matter how ludicrous the pairing of John Boehner and Obama may be, it’s even more ludicrous to compare the President of the United States to a fascist genocidal mad man.
