Errant throw nails Joe West in ALCS

The umpires had a hell of a night tonight in Game 1 of the ALCS. First it was Alex Cora lambasting the home plate umpire over a called strike that Andrew Benintendi should’ve protected against. Then later it was Joe West getting beamed in the chest by an errant throw from home plate by the Red Sox catching trying to nab the Astros stealing second.

Fans were booing initially however if ti wasn’t for Country Joe standing where he was the ball would have went into center field. In any sense the ball hitting West actually helped the Red Sox in this situation. Plus it wasn’t like West was actually in the way.

Not that it mattered though in the end because Chris Sale had a shitty night in which is velocity was down and Yuli Gurriel‘s three run homer late opened things up.

In the end the Astros took Game 1 over the Red Sox 7-2.
