Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom was escorted from Wintrust Arena following a heated courtside exchange with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud during Sunday nightâs game against the Indiana Fever.
According to reporting from The Associated Pressâ and ESPNâ , the confrontation occurred with 1:22 remaining in the third quarter.
Cloud scored inside to cut Indianaâs lead to 81-75 before the Fever called a timeout. She then turned toward Kanter Freedomâs baseline seat and began yelling and pointing in his direction.
Kanter Freedom stood with his arms extended and stepped toward the court. Arena security and several Sky players immediately moved between him and Cloud before the situation escalated.

Security directed Kanter Freedom away from the court while the Chicago crowd booed.
The former NBA center stopped near the basket to argue his case before walking toward the arena lobby. He held out the front of his shirt and encouraged a response from the crowd while leaving the seating area.
Kanter Freedom had been wearing a black shirt reading, âWOMAN noun. adult human female.â
ESPN reported Kanter Freedom made a talking gesture toward Cloud, pumped his fist and continued protesting his removal. He later spoke with several police officers before departing Wintrust Arena.
Chicago Sky Defends Natasha Cloud
Cloud met with team and league security following the game but did not speak with reporters.
Chicago forward Azura Stevens described the confrontation as a fan incident and said âsecurity handled it.â
Sky head coach Tyler Marsh defended Cloudâs actions and said the organization supported her.
Marsh said Cloud expressed concern about becoming a distraction. He told her the team viewed her as someone who protects her teammates and people who need protection.
Asked whether he had a message for Kanter Freedom, Marsh said fans attending WNBA games should âcome to enjoy the basketball.â
Indiana star Caitlin Clark said she did not see the confrontation because the Fever were discussing their next possession during the timeout.
Kanter Freedomâs WNBA Draft Declaration Adds Context
The incident occurred amid a broader debate surrounding transgender participation in womenâs sports.
Kanter Freedom and former NBA player Royce White recently declared themselves eligible for the WNBA draft, saying they identify as women. Their announcements followed Indiana guard Sophie Cunninghamâs public opposition to transgender girls and women competing in girlsâ and womenâs sports.
The WNBAâs collective bargaining agreement restricts player eligibility to women but provides no additional language concerning gender identity or sex assigned at birth. No transgender woman has played in the WNBA.
Kanter Freedom has presented his draft declaration as a challenge to the leagueâs eligibility standards.
Fever Defeats Sky 113-90
Indiana eventually pulled away for a 113-90 victory, improving to 25-14 while eliminating Chicago from playoff contention.
According to the official game recapâ , Clark scored 37 points and recorded 10 assists. She made a career-high eight three-pointers as Indiana set a franchise record with 18 made shots from beyond the arc.
Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points, while Cloud finished with 16 points and seven assists for Chicago.
The Fever closed their five-game road trip with a 3-2 record.
