Eight teams face off in a close night in the BNHL

Monday, October 15, 2012 in the BNHL offered some very close games throughout, with the games being a teaser into a big night for Tuesday for not only Detroit fans, but NHL fans in general.

Our first matchup pitted the hometown Calgary Flames and the visiting LA Kings, the hometeam riding high from a big opening night victory, and the Kings, from a bit of Stanley Cup hangover in their opening night loss. The verdict was a close game, with the Kings getting their first victory in overtime. LAK 4 – 3 CGY.

The Vancouver Canucks meanwhile, welcomed the Carolina Hurricanes into their barn, looking to keep their winning streak going, whereas the Canes were looking for a little more luck than their opening night. They got a little more luck, but still fell short in overtime, VAN 3 – 2 CAR.

San Jose looked to change their luck against the red hot Rangers, but ran into Henrik Lundqvist and just couldn’t overcome the hot NYR first line. Gaborik had two points, including a powerplay goal. NYR 3 – 2 SJS.

In the only non-one goal game, the Washington Capitals faced off against the Florida Panthers, and easily won the South East Showdown, WAS 4 – 1 FLA. Mike Ribeiro had a three point night, adding a goal and two assists.

Notes: NYI made a couple of free agent signings as they lost Michael Grabner for three weeks, they signed Brad Winchester to a two year contract.

Looking forward to tomorrow, we’ll have a total of nine games tomorrow. With such classic and interesting matchups as:

Boston Bruins (2-0-0) @ Montreal Canadiens (0-2-0)

Phoenix Coyotes (0-1-0) @ Dallas Stars (2-0-0)

Detroit Red Wings (0-1-0) @ Buffalo Sabres (1-0-0)
