It’s been a long time coming for Dustin Johnson to win his first major tournament. close finishes, choke jobs, drugs and a rules debacle that could have cost him the U.S. Open the year.
Only this time he was able to overcome.
After one of the most bizarre finishes to a U.S. Open you’ll ever see, Johnson was able to sink a 10-foot par save on 16 and finish four-under (three shots ahead of a three-way tie for second) to clinch.

However controversy struck on the fifth green when DJ’s ball moved as he was squaring for the putt. The question was whether or not Johnson hit the ball with his putter or the ball moved on it’s own. The second question was whether or not the USGA could get their shit together and come together on a ruling which would have been a one stroke penalty. Something the USGA said would be announced after Johnson finished his final round.

This sent Rory McIlroy into a frenzy on Twitter:
This is ridiculous… No penalty whatsoever for DJ. Let the guy play without this crap in his head. Amateur hour from @USGA

This isn't right for anyone on that golf course. If it was me I wouldn't hit another shot until this farce was rectified.

In the end everything worked out as DJ finished with a multi-shot lead putting to bed any chance of some rules farce determining the outcome of a major tournament.
