After yesterday’s first round, who knows what’s going to happen in the second round and third round tonight. Below is the updated second round. Take a look and see if Matt Barkley gets taken or if Ryan Nassib finds a home and of course, when do the running backs start hearing their names?
33. Jacksonville Jaguars – DE from Texas A&M – Damontre Moore – They took the best player available who actually fits a need. Another need is addressing their pass rush and on my board, Moore is the best player available.
34. New York Jets (trade with San Francisco) – QB from West Virginia – Geno Smith – Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jets are trying to move up so they can get Geno Smith. I think the 49ers will move down a few spots, knowing that one of their guys on their board will be there.
35. Philadelphia Eagles – CB from Boise State – Jamar Taylor – With Geno Smith going the pick before, the Eagles won’t take a QB until in the third round. Jamar Taylor is their highest ranked corner and they’ll take him.
36. Detroit Lions – OT from Florida State – Menelik Watson – They take a project player in Ziggy Ansah in round one and here’s another one. Watson is a LT and in my eyes is less of a project than Ansah. This pick is a must.
37. Cincinnati Bengals – RB from Alabama – Eddie Lacy – Finding a backup for Benjarvus Green-Ellis should be something the Bengals look for in this draft. They could very well wait until round three but I don’t think so. Lacy will be their future starter.
38. Arizona Cardinals – DE from Texas – Alex Okafor – Some would say that Tank Carradine is the guy for the Cardinals, I think differently. Okafor makes more sense in my eyes with the value he brings to the table to play alongside Darnell Dockett.
39. San Francisco 49ers (trade with New York) – TE from Stanford – Zach Ertz – Finding the replacement for Delanie Walker is on the top of the 49ers list now. Jim Harbaugh knows Zach Ertz and the word is they’re highly interested in him.
40. Tennessee Titans – CB from Mississippi State – Jonathan Banks – He’s the best corner on the board and the Titans won’t let him slip. I question some of his skills like finding the ball and his overall speed but he will be a fine number two corner next to Cortland Finnegan.
41. Buffalo Bills – WR from Tennessee – Justin Hunter – The Bills will have three guys on their board here and they will be Larry Warford, Justin Hunter and Robert Woods. Hunter is here and they’ll put him in their offense for the sake of EJ Manuel and Stevie Johnson.
42. Oakland Raiders – ILB from Notre Dame – Manti Te’o – Rolando McClain was released and they have to find a replacement for him. Te’o wouldn’t surprise me at all here with the way the Raiders draft.
43. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DE/DT from SMU – Margus Hunt – Somehow they need help with their defensive line and having a guy who can play anywhere is what the Buccaneers need.
44. Carolina Panthers – WR from USC – Robert Woods – They took Dwayne Jarrett a former USC standout and he never panned out in the NFL. Woods will be taken to have the hopes of panning out.
45. San Diego Chargers – OG from Kentucky – Larry Warford – They’re missing out on four offensive lineman and they got one back with Fluker in the first round. No way do they let Warford pass them by.
46. Buffalo Bills – OLB from Kansas State – Arthur Brown – The Bills could use help with their linebackers after letting Nick Barnett go this off season. Besides, they can’t neglect the defensive side of the ball.
47. Dallas Cowboys – FS from Florida International – Jonathan Cyperian – Reports are coming in that the Cowboys are interested in taking a safety in the second round. The three guys on their board would be Cyperian, JJ Wilcox and DJ Swearinger. Cyperian is on the board and will be taken.
48. Pittsburgh Steelers – RB from North Carolina – Giovanni Bernard – Mel Kiper has Montee Ball as his 2nd best running back but I think Bernard is better because of his agility and ability to create space with his feet and vision. The Steelers could agree as they need a running back.
49. New York Giants – DE from Florida State – Tank Carradine – They do have to find a replacement for Osi Umeniyora and having Tank Carradine on the board makes a lot of sense here.
50. Chicago Bears – ILB from LSU – Kevin Minter – Another player who falls out of the first round and there’s no way the Bears let him by. He will be the replacement for Brian Urlacher.
51. Washington Redskins – CB from Connecticut – Dwayne Gratz – With the injury to Darius Slay he becomes a risk and Shanahan has stated that the Redskins won’t be taking risks. Gratz isn’t a risk and he adds depth, value and fulfills a need in their secondary.
52. New England Patriots – DT from Alabama – Jesse Williams – The Patriots stockpiled on picks thanks to the Vikings. Jesse Williams is the best player on the board and he’s a player you can plug in behind Vince Wilfork as he begins to age.
53. Cincinnati Bengals – OT from Arkansas Pine-Bluff – Terron Armstead – Using three of your first picks on offense isn’t ideal but I think the Bengals will because Andre Smith isn’t back yet.
54. Kansas City Chiefs (trade with Miami) – ILB from Oregon – Kiko Alonso – They need help with their linebackers and it starts in the middle. Alonso is the best ILB on the board.
55. Green Bay Packers – RB from Wisconsin – Montee Ball – Packer fans would love this pick as he’s been playing in the state for the last four years. This would be a huge upgrade for the Packers backfield.
56. Seattle Seahawks – DT from Purdue – Kawann Short – I’m high on this player and think he could be a steal this far into the second round. The Seahawks have had a thing for defensive lineman this offseason and I think they’ll continue showing that with this pick.
57. Houston Texans – OLB from Southern Mississippi – Jamie Collins – Collins is a sure second round pick and with injuries to Brian Cushing, the Texan’s need to address help to their linebackers.
58. Denver Broncos – CB from Mississippi State – Darius Slay – A torn meniscus is something to be aware of but that’s why he falls to the Broncos. He can play behind the secondary they have now to allow himself enough time to fully heal from the injury.
59. New England Patriots – WR from California – Kennan Allen – Some don’t think he’ll fall this far and I don’t think he will either but if he does, the Patriots should take him.
60. Atlanta Falcons – DE from LSU – Sam Montgomery – Replacing John Abraham and Ray Edwards has to be on the Falcons list of needs. Montgomery would fit the script here.
61. San Francisco 49ers – DT from Ohio State – Jonathan Hankins – It’ll be a toss up between Hankins and John Jenkins. I believe Hankins wins the coin flip do to his versatility and jump off the ball.
62. Baltimore Ravens – OLB from Connecticut – Sio Moore – Moore gets passed up by every team in the second round but the Ravens. They need him with Ellerbe joining the Dolphins, McClain getting arrested and Lewis retiring. This pick makes a lot of sense.
Trade Prediction
New York Jets trade the 39th overall pick (2nd round) and 72nd overall pick (3rd round) to the San Francisco 49ers for the 34th overall pick (2nd round)
Kansas City Chiefs trade LT Brandon Albert to the Miami Dolphins for the 54th overall pick (2nd round) and 77th overall pick (3rd round)
