Dorf’s 2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 1 – Picks 23-32

This is part three of Dorf’s 2013 NFL Mock Draft Round 1. Links to the first and seconds parts are available at the bottom of the page.

Dorf’s 2013 NFL Mock Draft 3-18-13

I’m Adam Waltersdorf (Dorf) and this is my first mock draft as a part of The Majors writing team. I will frequently be doing similar articles all the way up till draft day. There were be hyper detailed ones like this and less detailed one that will stretch up to 5 rounds as we get closer to the big day.

23.       Minnesota (10-6)

Minnesota is going to want to replace the explosiveness that they lost when they traded headache Percy Harvin to the Seahawks. Tavon Austin is just the man for the job. Little guy can wiggle and just flat out run.  Christian Ponder will be glad to throw the ball to Austin in space and let him run and run and run some more. Steve Smith of the Panthers is a good comparison to Austin’s size and ability.

24.       Indianapolis (11-5)

Name

The Colts really didn’t adjust their personnel from their former 4-3 to the current 3-4. Adding Richardson is adding a player who can hold down that 3-4 Defensive End slot. Richardson is the ideal physical specimen for the job and is slotted right to the Colts. Think of Jay Ratliff of the Cowboys, minus the DUI problems.

25.       Minnesota – from Seattle (11-5)

The Vikings have addressed their offensive speed issue by drafting Tavon Austin earlier in this mock, but now have plenty of defensive issues to address. They lack a real good third linebacker, and Mingo can be that guy if he makes a smooth transition from a college DE. The guy can flat out run, but is kind of a clown of and on the field. Can Jared Allen and company get him on the path to stardom? Think of Bruce Irvin in Seattle as a good comparison.

26.       Green Bay (11-5)

Eric Walden was a bum anyway, and this former top five pick lock has fallen down and will make an already very good team even better. Cut from the same cloth as former A&M teammate Von Miller, just not quite as explosive he still can be a very good baller for the cheese heads. I liken him to the Bears Shea McClellin.

27.       Houston (12-4)

Name

Justin Hunter

Tennessee

WR

His size and speed are never going to be questioned but his work ethic and strength. Andre Johnson wants a buddy and Matt Schaub wouldn’t mind having another option to throw to. The corpse of Kevin Walter was finally set free from Houston recently and DeVier Posey and Keyshawn Martin aren’t meant to be number two receivers in the NFL.

28.       Denver (13-3)

Name

Eddie Lacy

Willis McGahee is always hurt, Knowshon Moreno is a total bust, and Ronnie Hilman isn’t a good enough back for this team. Therefore I think that the Broncos will take Alabama battering ram Eddie Lacy. He is just a carbon copy of former teammate Mark Ingram of the Saints with slightly less receiving ability.

29.       New England (12-4)

Name

School

Position

De’Andre Hopkins

Clemson

After losing their top two wide receivers Tom Brady will want a new target outside of his awesome tight ends. Danny Amendola was a nice find to take Welker’s spot, but still won’t be the same. Hopkins was a very productive college player who didn’t have a great combine, but still should be a good NFL pro, especially when Brady is throwing him the ball at the beginning of his career. Compare him to the Lions Nate Burleson at a slightly younger age.

30.       Atlanta (13-3)

Name

Sam Montgomery

The Falcons had to cut John Abraham for cap and age reasons. Montgomery comes with some character concerns, but the Falcons have more than enough locker room guys to get him in line and make him a very nice pro. Think of the Seahawks Chris Clemons as a good comparison.

31.       San Francisco (11-4-1)

Name

Tyler Eifert

After losing Delanie Walker as a free agent, the 49ers need a tight end. Conveniently Eifert is the best player available. He is the next in a line of many Notre Dame tight ends that have been very good pros. (Kyle Rudolph and John Carlson to name a few.) He is just like Rudolph only just a little bit shorter in stature.

32.       Baltimore (10-6)

Name

Ray Lewis retires and Darnell Ellerbe bolts in free agency, so the Ravens are desperate at linebacker. Ogletree is a former Safety that hits like a freight train but still runs like his former position. He played in a 3-4 in college and will be ready to step right in to the middle and pick up where Ray Lewis left off. He reminds me a lot of James Laurinatis of the Rams.
