The Dominican Republic scored that countries biggest victory Thursday night rallying for two runs in the top of the ninth to beat the United States 3-1 in the World Baseball Classic from Miami.
Tied 1-1 entering the top half of the final inning, Braves closer Craig Kimbrel entered the game where he promptly gave up a double to Nelson Cruz. Two batters later, Eric Aybar singled in Cruz before stealing second to put himself in scoring position. The Dominican Republic then capped off their scoring when Jose Reyes was able to get Aybar in to score.
The United States was unsuccessful against Fernando Rodney in the bottom of the 9th and will now face Puerto Rico in an elimination game Friday. The winner of that game will take on the Dominican Republic once again for a chance to go to San Francisco and play either Japan or the Netherlands in the Championship round.
