The Detroit sports television landscape just changed in a big way.
Ilitch Sports + Entertainment has officially launched Detroit SportsNet, a new year round broadcast and streaming platform that will serve as the local television home for the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.
The move marks the end of the teams’ run with FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and signals a major shift in how fans will access games moving forward.
Tigers Moving First
The Detroit Tigers will begin airing games on Detroit SportsNet starting this season. The change comes after uncertainty surrounding regional sports networks over the last year, particularly following financial struggles tied to Main Street Sports Group.
For Tigers fans, this means a new direct to consumer streaming option is now available. Detroit SportsNet is offering subscriptions at 19.99 per month or 189.99 per year for in market streaming access.
Cable and satellite carriage agreements are still being finalized, but the expectation is that Detroit SportsNet will be added to local providers in the near future.
Red Wings Transition Coming Next
The Detroit Red Wings will finish the current season on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit before officially transitioning to Detroit SportsNet beginning with the 2026 to 27 NHL season.
This staggered move allows the network to ramp up operations while keeping both franchises under the Ilitch umbrella for local broadcast control.
A New Era of Team Controlled Media
The launch of Detroit SportsNet reflects a broader trend across professional sports. Teams and ownership groups are increasingly taking control of their local media rights instead of relying on third party regional sports networks.
By creating their own network, the Ilitch organization gains more flexibility in pricing, distribution, and digital access while maintaining direct relationships with fans.
For viewers, the key questions now center around accessibility, streaming quality, and how widely available Detroit SportsNet will be across cable providers.
One thing is clear. The days of Tigers and Red Wings games living exclusively on traditional regional sports networks are over.
A new broadcast era in Detroit has officially begun.
