Just days after officially bringing back forward Yazeed Matthews, Detroit City FC announced another signing in the form of veteran right-back Richard Foster.
Detroit City Football Club announced Monday the club has signed journeyman Scottish footballer Richard Foster to a deal that will see Foster stepping into a player-coaching role on Trevor James’ first-team staff. His deal is for the remainder of the 2022 season, with team and player options that could see him be part of the Rouge and Gold family through the 2024 season pending league and federation approval.

Foster’s signing is one that opens up a bunch of possibilities both in the present and future for the club. Head coach Trevor James who’s been handcuffed of sorts when it comes to expanding the roster acquires an extremely versatile player in Foster who’s listed as a right-back but can really play any position on the pitch other than keeper.

Meanwhile, the club also acquires undoubtedly their most experienced player ever.
With a senior career that began when he was just 17 years old with Aberdeen, Foster continued to see plenty of action in the Scottish Premiership with the Rangers and Ross County.
The now 37-year-old saw his most recent action playing for third-tier Partick Thistle of Scottish League One this past season before making his way over to Detroit City.
Foster currently holds a UEFA A-Level coaching license and will, as previously mentioned, undertake a dual role with Detroit City moving forward as both a player and coach. It’ll be interesting to see how that dual role will ultimately be juggled by Trevor James over these final weeks of the regular season considering the thin bench and starters who have already seen a shit of minutes this year.
