This past Saturday, Detroit City FC got a major boost in their push for the playoffs by way of a 2-0 win over North Carolina FC. In the post-match, we were able to catch up with DCFC head coach Danny Dichio to gather his thoughts on the win, Michael Bryant returning to action after sitting out last weekend with a back injury, and his future with the club.

A win is a win

Despite not being at their best last Saturday, Detroit City FC managed to secure a crucial 2-0 victory. Head coach Danny Dichio acknowledged the mixed performance, noting that the team had played “extremely well” in the two matches prior but failed to get the results. He added that City appeared a bit “nervous” in the second half, yet emphasized that the most important thing was coming away with the win.

Michael Bryant returns to action

After missing the match against Louisville City due to a back injury, Michael Bryant returned to action for Detroit City FC against North Carolina FC. Head coach Danny Dichio noted that Bryant was able to train on Friday ahead of the game and continued to feel good on Saturday morning. Although he was eager to start, Bryant came on as a substitute in the 66th minute, providing valuable defensive stability—particularly as North Carolina ramped up their pressure in the second half.

Dichio’s future with the Club

Last week, Danny Dichio noted that the club remains in something of a holding pattern when it comes to re-signing players, as Detroit City FC is still without a sporting director following the summer dismissal of Trevor James. Dichio himself appears to be in a similar position, with no contract in place for next season while the organization continues to balance the construction of AlumniFi Field and rebuilding its front office structure.

When asked about his own status with the club, Dichio said that he’s had some discussions about his future but that his “main priorities” right now are to “get the team winning again.” He added that his “situation will be sorted out one way or the other” and expressed his desire to remain with both the club and the city of Detroit.
