The Detroit City FC women’s side which was established in 2020 wrapped up their fourth season and second in the USL-W. The semi-pro side currently rolls out a semi-pro roster consisting of both college and post-collegiate players.
With rumors of a City women’s indoor team swirling this past summer, it was post-collegiate players, notably DCFC keeper Gabby Schriver and forward Kayla Addison who reportedly brought the idea to the Club. Additionally, player/coach Dani Evans who serves as an associate coach on David Dwaihy’s W-League staff will manage the PASL side Bianchi further mentions.
Not only will the indoor women’s team serve as a nice bridge between the club’s USL and USL-W outdoor seasons but also shows a greater commitment from Detroit City when it comes to women’s soccer. That greater commitment will especially be important if DCFC eventually wants to field a fully professional women’s team in the future, an idea that’s seemingly been thrown around since the inception of the USL Super League which is set to begin play in August of 2024.
