Aside from the Detroit City FCโ€™s first teamโ€™s sweeping all six points, the other big news of the weekend was the departure of DCFC midfielder Ali Coote.

Immediately after Le Rougeโ€™s 2-0 victory over the Charleston Battery, the Detroit Newsโ€™ Nolan Bianchi tweeted that Coote is โ€œno longer with the Clubโ€ and that the โ€œtwo parties broke it off on good terms as Coote has interest from a club in Ireland.โ€

Additionally, the term โ€œsoldโ€ was used by a source concerning Aliโ€™s departure, however, initial chatter by Bianchi and on Twitter seems to indicate that the midfielder is currently without a club but generating interest from teams across the pond.

Last week, we made inquiries with the club about Coote and his noticeable absence from the team and were told that โ€œfor the first time in the USL era, we are carrying enough players that not every player needs to travel to every match, which is a nice luxury.โ€

As far as any compensation for Cooteโ€™s departure, we may have to end up waiting on an official announcement from the Club to fill in some of those details.

Coote was one of the higher-profile signings for Detroit City FC this past winter signing a two-year deal with the club coming over from Bohemian FC in Ireland. He was also a main fixture in DCFCโ€™s early season success forming a pretty formidable trio with Maxi Rodriguez and Elvis Amoh.

Unfortunately, a lengthy injury to Amoh in April seemingly upended that early season success for Coote becoming less of a fixture in the starting XI and eventually to the point of being left off the match-day roster entirely. Cooteโ€™s final appearance for City came on June 1 as a sub in the 62โ€ฒ in a 3-2 road loss to Orange County.

UPDATE: Things are โ€œstill in motionโ€ with Ali Coote

According to sources with Detroit City FC, no official announcement regarding the departure of Ali Coote is anticipated until โ€œWednesday at the earliest, as things are still in motion.โ€
