Derek Jeter Shut Down by Yankees

The Captain Derek Jeter was placed on the disabled list again Wednesday ending the 39 year old’s season.  Jeter suffered a severe ankle injury nearly a year ago against Detroit in the American League Championship Series something that he apparently never fully recovered from. Many assumed that when he went down with that ankle injury in the postseason that he would probably start the 2013 campaign on the DL and now it looks like he’ll finish the season there as well.

“This entire season has been a nightmare for me physically,” Jeter said. “It’s a fitting end.”

Jeter was limited to an abysmal 17 games this season.  Excluding his debut in 1995, the most games Jeter had missed in a single year was 43 in 2003.  New York will obviously miss his presence in the top of the order but they will miss his clutch hitting and postseason experience (if they get there) with the season coming to a close.

Derek Jeter believes he will return in 2014 and get back to playing baseball the way he was before he suffered the injury.  However with next year being his 19th season in the majors there are continued serious doubts about him returning to form.
