If Michigan fans were hoping Denard Robinson could provide a mental edge against the Golden Gophers this weekend, they may be mistaken.
According to the Detroit News, Minnesota defensive players will approach Denard Robinson just like any other player.
“(Minnesota quarterback) MarQueis (Gray) is a great athlete … so facing an athlete like (Robinson) is nothing really spectacular,” Gophers linebacker Aaron Hill told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “It’s just something we have to come out and face every day.”
Furthermore Minnesota cornerback Brock Vereen said he doesn’t need to watch film to get a gauge in on Robinson’s speed…
“Denard? He’s a playmaker, an athletic player,” Vereen said. “But we have a fast defense, and we’re going to rely on that. Film session? You get a film session if you just turn on ESPN. It’ll be a great test. You want a test like this early in the Big Ten season.”
The problem is you can still have a fast defense and still be ineffective.
Robinson consistently takes advantage of bad teams ranking fourth nationally in rushing and has accounted for 1,176 yards this season.
You can probably add another 100 yard plus day in rushing this weekend with Michigan takes on Minnesota for the “Little Brown Jug” from the Big House.
