According to various reports, WWE superstar Dean Ambrose has decided against signing an extension with the company meaning the former Shield member could be on his way out from the promotion come the end of April.
The reason by Ambrose’s pretty shocking decision isn’t entirely clear however early word is the Lunatic Fridge hasn’t been thrilled with the direction of his character since coming back from injury August.
Since beating his former Shield stablemate Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental Title at TLC in December, Ambrose’s reign as the IC champion didn’t last long. In fact it lasted less than a month as he dropped it during the January 14th edition of RAW to Bobby Lashley.
On top of that, Ambrose was apparently rumored to be in a big angle at the Royal Rumble that was presumably scrapped for reasons unknown.
Not sure why I’m going down this road, plenty of “angry” people won’t believe it, but the “big” story was eventually going to involve Ambrose. So this news altered plans. There’s someone with a blue check verified status on here that can confirm I shared this w/ them prior to Sun

Needless to say Ambrose’s impact on the Royal Rumble was pretty lackluster as he was eliminated from the Rumble by Aleister Black.
Could Ambrose be on his way to AEW?
Obviously the big question is will Dean Ambrose be one of the next big pro wrestling stars to make their way to All Elite Wrestling? Since the current news of Ambrose effectively giving his notice to the WWE, it’s completely unclear if the AEW is his next destination. However given what the AEW has been able to do in terms of attracting talent to go with their rumored NFL-like deals to guys like Chris Jericho it’s my guess that if AEW wasn’t an option Ambrose may have been more prone to waiting to see how things play out within the WWE.
In any sense, AEW I’m sure will be interested in the former world champion which will certainly give Ambrose some leverage in any future contract with the WWE and/or the direction of his character.
Beyond that the next question would be what happens to Ambrose’s wife Renee Young who’s currently on RAW broadcast duties? Given her gig within the the WWE it’s hard to see her leaving unless Ambrose’s decision to depart will leave WWE executives feeling sour towards her.
