One guy to survive Black Monday in the NFL was Giants GM Dave Gettleman who’ll stick around for at least next season with the G-Men after co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch decided that the team is going in the right direction.
I guess you can see some of the reasoning behind Mara and Tisch ultimately deciding to keep Gettleman around. His team did see some improvement after a tough first two seasons to his tenure and Joe Judge seems to be a decent hire thus far as the Giants were on the cusp of the playoffs despite a 6-10 record. And after getting torn apart by the New York media for cutting ties with Odell Beckham and Leonard Williams, Gettleman has seemingly proven that those moves were all part of the big plan to distance the team from the massive amounts of shit that Jerry Reese saddled the team with upon his departure.
If Gettleman is going to keep his job beyond next season though, you’d hope that Mara and Tisch will hold true to some certain benchmarks such as Daniel Jones making some very apparent strides in improvement, something he really didn’t do this season and the Giants continue to take advantage of a piss poor division. The playoffs next season is a must, anything less and Gettleman needs to be shown the door.
