Washington Redskins v Pittsburgh Steelers

Redskins’ owner Dan Snyder announced a program Monday night called the “Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation,” an organization designed to help Native Americans in the country. What’s ironic too is that the “foundation” still goes by the derogatory term that brought Daniel Snyder into all of this. But I guess that’s the difference between true sincerity and being totally patronizing.

Here’s a letter from Snyder talking about his travels around the country visiting several reservations and the birth of the charity:

And a memorable quote highlighting Snyder’s nonsensical and pompous attitude:

“The more I heard, the more I’ve learned, and the more I saw, the more resolved I became about helping to address the challenges that plague the Native American community. In speaking face-to-face with Native American leaders and community members, it’s plain to see they need action, not words.”

Now I know what some of you may be thinking, “give the guy a break, he’s giving back!” in which case you’re absolutely right. He’s giving back after years of profiting off a blatantly racist name that demeans the same groups of people he’s looking to “help”. What’s even more hilarious and proving that he really doesn’t care about the Native Americans is he’s going to continue go by the same ridiculous moniker and continue to make his millions.

The native people of this country didn’t ask for your help Mr. Snyder or want you to continue to look for justification for an outdated, offensive brand. Just change the name and spare us all the whimsical charade.
