When it comes to the injury front, things may end up getting worse before they get better for the Detroit Lions.

Today, head coach Dan Campbell mentioned offensive tackle Taylor Decker — who has been dealing with a finger injury since September may end up getting shut down for the remainder of the season.

“There’s a chance (we could shut him down),” Campbell said. “I mean, really we’ve only got another two-week window here on it since we started his clock so we’re going to have to figure something out within the next couple weeks on it, one way or another whether he’s on the roster, activated, ready to go or if not, we have to put him down for the rest of the season. It’ll come. I really, I don’t know where this is going to go short-term. I don’t. I really don’t right now. I mean, we’ll just have to see how he feels.”

Decker originally suffered the injury prior to the start of the season which has held him out all six games to start the year. In his place at left tackle rookie, Penei Sewell has looked pretty impressive starting all six games at this natural after struggling on the right side during the preseason.

Sewell’s success on the left side has further led to questions as to whether the Lions should ultimately deal Decker who just signed a four-year, $60 million dollar contract extension with the team?

Obviously, Decker’s injury essentially nixes any possibility the Lions deal the veteran tackle prior to the NFL trade deadline which may end being the biggest setback for Detroit. This taking into account that it still should be the goal for the Lions front office to continue to stock draft picks taking into account the circumstances of a new regime being in full rebuild mode.
