Fast forward to 2011 and imagine if Sidney Crosby decided to retire, again only after a few seasons playing in the NHL? What would the NHL be like going forward?
Now I’m not saying that Sidney Crosby is as great or will be as great as Wayne Gretzky, but there’s not refuting the fact that Crosby has the chance to be great. Crosby is also one of the faces if not thee face of the present day NHL.
But is Sidney Crosby considering retirement?
Crosby has been out of action for the Penguins ever since he suffered a concussion during this year’s Winter Classic against Eastern Conference rival the Washington Capitals.
According to ESPN.com, sports radio host Bob McCown of the Fan590 in Toronto caused a stir this past Friday when he said he heard that Crosby’s family was trying to convince the young superstar to retire for fear of risking more head injuries.
Crosby’s father was quick to put the rumors to rest.
“Not at all,” Troy Crosby, from his Halifax, Nova Scotia, home, told ESPN. “We’re just trying to get him healthy again. However long that takes, that’s how long it’s going to take.”
Crosby’s agent Pat Brisson also refuted the report. Brisson also said that Crosby is progressing in his recovery but there’s still no timetable for his return.
