David Price is at it again.
No the Red Sox lefty isn’t berating color analysts on airplanes or blasting journalists in the Boston club house. He’s not even claiming Dan Shaughnessy is “fake news”. What Price is doing though is continuing to make himself look like the biggest thin skinned prick in Major League Baseball today.
Last week, we posted an an article discussing the details surrounding the confrontation Price had with NESN analyst Dennis Eckersley. Essentially Price was unhappy with the Eckersley’s evaluation of a teammate’s rehab stint and decided to mock the former reliever on the team charter before telling him to “get the fuck out of here”.
However today, Price sounded a bit remorseful for how things went down with Eckersley saying “I could have handled it probably a different way”.
No David you most certainly could have handled it a different way. Whatever though. It’s a start.
But… the Boston stater added “but ever since that’s happened [sic], he’s been really good”.
Wow, Price has found his own twisted justification for being a total asshole. Nice.
It didn’t end there.
The creme dela creme came when Price said, “He’s (Eckersley) said a lot of positive stuff about everybody in this clubhouse. This is one band, one sound. We’ve got to have everybody on board. That’s that”.
Are you fucking kidding me?
So Price is pretty much eluding to a desire to not have the media tell the truth but fluff the collective nuts of his teammates to help them play better.
Sorry David that’s not how this works. And he’s been around long enough to know that.
The media isn’t part of your inner circle or your groupies in the David Price “Band”. Nor is the media here to keep “everybody on board”. The media is here to deliver the truth and the truth is Eckersley was right in his one word assessment of Eduardo Rodriguez’s rehab start and you’ve been okay this season. Not good, great or spectacular like you may want to hear. You’ve just been okay. And now you’re heading to the DL with an elbow issue which I hope you can come back from because perhaps the least I can do here is not go to David Price lengths in displaying how big of a tool I can be.
I get it too. Sometimes players will have it out with the media. Pro athletes are human just like the rest of us.
But come one people.
Price has a growing rap sheet when it comes to his battles with the media. And sure maybe it’s just a Boston thing but Price has had his run in’s with reporters in other cities. Not that I want to defend Lynn Henning of the Detroit News since the guy is a dullard, but Price managed to get into it with him as well when he (Henning) called him (Price) a “self absorbed pitcher” back in 2015 when he was with the Tigers.
Perhaps Henning was on to something.
Anyways, the next thing you know Price will dying his hair blonde, sport a too long tie with scotch tape on the back and scream to his supporters about how the MLB needs to open up it’s libel laws. Or some shit like that.
