The Indianapolis Colts locked up franchise QB Peyton Manning to a long-term deal Saturday ensuring that the pro-bowler is in camp on time.
Colts owner Jerry Isray said he was thrilled to lock up the quarterback to a contract that will likely keep Manning in Indianapolis for the rest of his career. Details of the contract were not immediately revealed however it is believed to be a five-year deal worth about $90 million dollars. If you break that down, Peyton Manning will earn roughly $633 dollars every second he is on the field.
“Signing Peyton was a top priority for this organization and we are thrilled that the deal is complete,” Irsay said in a statement released by the team Saturday. “We feel that it is a salary cap friendly deal and it allows us more flexibility.”
Manning’s new deal comes nearly five months after the Colts placed the franchise tag on the four-time MVP disabling him from negotiating a deal with another team. Had Manning signed the one-year offer, he would have made $23.1 million this season.
Irsay and team president Bill Polian are scheduled to discuss the deal at a Sunday afternoon news conference.
