Eagles

The Chip Kelly era with the Philadelphia Eagles could soon be coming to an end amid tension between himself and the players.

Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter went on Sirius XM Radio to discuss the situation in Philadelphia saying the players and Kelly himself are ‘sick of each other’ and that the head coach would probably be ‘comfortable elsewhere’.

The momentum and signs seem to be piling up against a Chip return to Philadelphia. I think both sides are sick of each other. I think the fans are tired of him, I think he’s tired of the situation there – just my read from afar … I just think that Chip Kelly, if given a choice, might be comfortable elsewhere …

You can also listen to audio of Schefter’s Sirius XM appearance below:

Furthermore, an agent of an unidentified Eagles player has told Matt Lombardo of NJ Advanced Media that Kelly has lost his locker room.

“Chip Kelly has lost the team,” the agent said. “Between the losses and his bull[bleep] methods that aren’t working, I can tell you that the players have tuned him out.”

Additionally, the anonymous agent also told Lombardo that an Eagles player could be playing through an injury but wouldn’t do it because he ‘won’t play hurt for Chip’. Pretty telling considering the Eagles remain one-game behind the New York Giants for first place in the NFC East despite losing their last two straight.

Obviously the Chip Kelly and Philadelphia Eagles tension could be coming to a head, especially if they lose today on the road in Detroit against the Lions. Coming off a blowout home loss to the Buccaneers last weekend, the Eagles are in a must win situation this Thanksgiving considering they have to go on the road next weekend against the New England Patriots. A loss today and a loss next week would almost certainly take a potentially 4-8 Eagles team out of any contention for the playoffs.

But what’s happened in Philly with Chip Kelly seems typical with any type of high-profile college coach. We’ve seen in the past with the likes of Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban, more recently with Jim Harbaugh (despite the Super Bowl appearance) and now with Kelly himself. The abrasive personalities simply don’t make that transition and mesh with the NFL players.

Kelly could find himself with another NFL team, but he definitely seems more suited for the college game. In fact I hear their may be an opening at LSU here shortly.
