Friday it was announced that the Chicago Blackhawks will take on the Washington Capitals in the 2015 Winter Classic in DC. This marks the first time Washington has hosted the Winter Classic which has become pretty popular spawning several other outdoor games in the League.

Although a venue hasn’t been set yet the overwhelming assumption is the game will be held at Nationals Park considering the Redskins host the Cowboys at FedEX Field on December 28th (which may not give organizers enough time to convert it into a rink), RFK is a crumbling mess and Camden is in Baltimore.
Venue for Winter Classic in D.C. hasn't been finalized yet but leading candidate is believed to be Nationals Park.

As far as the 2016 Winter Classic goes Denver seems to be the early favorite to host. Being a Red Wing fan myself I wouldn’t mind seeing a flashback to 96 with the Wings taking on the Avalanche. Not to mention an alumni game that could include both Claude Lemieux and Darren McCarty.
