Change of strategy again? Jacob Turner not on the trading block

Jacob Turner apparently isn’t going anywhere, at least anytime soon.

It what looks to be another change in strategy (or perhaps it never changed to begin with) Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski says that pitching prospect Jacob Turner is not on the trading block. This is according to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News.

“We are not looking to trade Jacob Turner,” Dombrowski said. “We love the guy. But I have received calls from clubs wondering if we would be interested in certain players because they have interest in our players. And he is a guy they ask about immediately because he is held in such high esteem.

“Do we listen to anybody?” Dombrowski asked, rhetorically. “Yes. But we are not looking to trade Jacob Turner by any means. Our philosophy remains the same.”

Speculation surrounding the availability of Turner once again heated up earlier in the week when it was rumored that Turner would be involved in a deal for Cubs right-hander Matt Garza. Turner was also reportedly going to be involved in a deal for lefty Gio Gonzalez who was recently traded from the A’s to the Nationals for a nice group of top of the line prospects.

Despite Turner being off the table the Tigers still need to fill a rotation spot and still have a nice group of young pitchers that could be going the other way in a trade. In addition to pitching, the team is also looking for outfield help which seems to be revolving around Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes. If the Tigers were to land Cespedes the pitching wish list could be greatly modified.
