Calvin Johnson advances to the finals of the 2012 Madden cover vote

Lions WR Calvin Johnson advanced to the finals of the 2012 Madden cover vote Wednesday morning EA Sports announced. Johnson who put up career numbers in 2011 and cemented himself as the best wide-out in the league beat Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers with 67% of the vote.

Megatron now faces Carolina QB Cam Newton in the finals who defeated Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers in the other semifinal.

These recent developments could be very troubling for the fans of Calvin Johnson and the Detroit Lions given the well documented cases of the Madden cover jinx.

Now some of these jinxes have been minor such as the ones experienced by Drew Brees (up until this year), Larry Fitzgerald and Ray Lewis. However there have been more extreme cases such as the one’s that came down on Vince Young, Shaun Alexander and yes Barry Sanders (who retired the year he appeared on the cover).

So all in all the Madden cover jinx has had some sort of effect on each player that was given the so-called honor. The question that this point though is will that continue and will it happen to Calvin Johnson if he beats out Cam Newton in the finals?

I don’t think so but why tempt fate?
