As expected after his debut last week on Smackdown, Cain Velasquez has signed what is reported to be a “lucrative” multi-year deal with WWE. ESPN was the first to drop the news.
Velasquez’s new WWE deal is said to be lucrative, according to Raimondi of ESPN. The report noted that the MMA heavyweight has also informed UFC officials of his decision to retire from the Octagon. Cain has been removed from UFC’s USADA drug testing pool and from the UFC heavyweight rankings.
Additionally, Cain Velasquez is scheduled to take on WWE Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar — who Velasquez beat for the UFC Heavyweight title back in 2010 — at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on October 31.
Velasquez though isn’t the only combat fighter making a cross over to pro wrestling.
Champion boxer Tyson Fury will take on Braun Stroman also at Crown Jewel which unlike Velasquez is only scheduled to be a one-off. Fury is expected to return to the boxing ring in 2020 for a fight against Deontay Wilder, a rematch from their December 2018 bout.
