On Monday afternoon, the Patriots’ Day celebration was cut short as two bombs went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Almost 200 people were injured and three were killed, one being an eight-year-old boy by the name of Martin Richard. Since the tragedy, pictures of the boy have circulated the web, and one of the most popular images has Richard sporting a Boston Bruins jersey. Bruins fans zeroed in on this, and responded accordingly. This is what happened before the Boston Bruins played the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday night at the TD Garden.
Martin Richard was also honored by Bruins fans with a makeshift Bruins jersey of his own hung on the Bobby Orr statue outside of the TD Garden. Chants of “We are Boston” rang throughout the arena during the course of the game.
