Once again it came down to the Red Sox and the Yankees as Red Sox first baseman squared off against Yankee second baseman Robinson Cano in the final round of the 2011 Home Run Derby from Chase Field in Phoenix.
This time though Yankees pinstripes prevailed.
Robinson Cano ended up defeating Adrian Gonzalez 12-11 in the finals Monday night after they each hit 20 home runs through two rounds.
However the night almost turned tragic.
During the night’s festivities, a fan standing on a table above a pool deck tried to catch a Prince Fielder home run before falling over the deck. Luckily he was grabbed by his brother before falling 20 feet to the concrete below.
Last week a Rangers fan by the name of Shannon Stone died while trying to catch a ball thrown into the stands at a Rangers game in Arlington, Texas.
