After throwing four interceptions in a 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, 49ers QB Brock Purdy was quick to accept the blame as the top spot in the NFC and a first-round bye in the playoffs all of a sudden has become wide open.

“I have to look myself in the mirror and ask myself why or how that happened and why I made those decisions,” Purdy said. “Our team came ready to play and for me to make some decisions like that, it pains me. It’s not fair to these guys. I have to realize that and understand that, and I have to get better for my team.”

Purdy completed 18 of 32 passes for 255 yards before exiting the game due to a minor injury in the late stages. However, what’s more concerning for 49ers’ fans isn’t the stinger but Purdy looking every bit of a seventh-round quarterback instead of an MVP candidate. Despite last night’s game, Purdy is still a strong contender for the MVP title this season. However, it’s hard not to question his effectiveness when facing other top players in the league, such as Lamar Jackson last night, who is also a perennial MVP candidate. Needless to say, shit isn’t going to be getting any easier backup up against the playoffs when a game like last night will cost you your season.

It wasn’t all on Purdy though. Sure the offense will run through him as the offense kept giving the ball away and only produced two scoring drives until Sam Darnold threw a touchdown late. However, the defense simply couldn’t hang with Jackson who was nearly perfect last night as the Ravens emerged as the undoubted Super Bowl favorites.
