One of the bigger stories coming out of last night’s All-Star Game was Adam Wainwright telling reporters that he was basically serving up meatballs to Derek Jeter during his first at-bat which eventually turned into a double and run scored for the Yankees captain. Following this, Wainwright quickly recanted what he originally said to FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews who finished the interview with “don’t you love social media?” considering the comments blew up Twitter right after.
Here’s the interview:
Andrews’ line of questioning, especially the don’t you love social media query at the end didn’t sit well with WEEI/NESN Dennis and Callahan co-host Kirk Minihane who proceeded to call Andrew’s a gutless bitch who should drop dead. Ouch…
I hate her! What a gutless bitch! Go away. Drop dead. I mean, seriously what the hell is wrong with her? First of all, follow-up. Second of all, the guy admitted he did it. He admitted he told reporters he threw a couple of pipe bombs. How is that social media’s fault? I hate her. Don’t you love social media? Yeah…social media is — shut up. shut up. i’m sure she’s a nice person, but she’s…she’s probably a bitch. I hate her.
So did Wainwright tell reporters that he was basically going to play chef during Jeter’s at-bat? Yeah he did where of which you could understand to a point why someone might see Andrews’ line of questioning a bit softballish. However if Andrews’ questions didn’t go far enough or were condescending with the social media quip at the end then what Minihane said was extremely out of line and inappropriate. So much so I wouldn’t be surprised if you hear Minihane or the station apologizing and issuing out suspensions for the outburst.
In the end though was what Andrews did really that big of deal? No not at all. Not to mention was a dug out interview the right time and place to grill Wainwright on what he was serving up to Jeter? Probably not.
